On 28th July 2010, Mike wrote a letter to the Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, concerning Portslade Community College’s bid for Academy status.
As you are no doubt aware, an application for Academy status has been made by Portslade Community College (PCC) in my constituency. I understand that a decision is to be made shortly.
I visited PCC recently and met with the Principal, Stuart McLaughlin, along with the sponsor’s representative, Honor Wilson-Fletcher MBE, Director of the Aldridge Foundation.
Having witnessed such determination and enthusiasm from the applicants and having received such positive feedback from parents, I would like to make clear my position on the matter in advance of any plans being finalised.
There is no doubt in my mind that any discussions held by PCC with parents and teachers will be extremely useful and I am grateful to the team at PCC for their openness to date. I would like to reassure you that I fully support this application and look forward to seeing great improvements made over the coming months and years.
I should be extremely grateful if you would provide me with an update on this matter at your convenience and I thank you for all of your assistance so far.
MIKE WEATHERLEY MP
