Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, and Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Retail & Business Crime, has condemned a repeat attempt to rob a local newsagent.
Mike recently visited the owner of Associates Newsagents in Western Road to discuss the first robbery attempt, only to learn that the shop has been targeted again. During the visit, Mike was told by the owner that there had not been any trouble in 25 years. In Mike’s role as Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Retail & Business Crime, he has repeatedly highlighted the dangers that shopkeepers face. This is a pertinent local example of the problem.
Commenting, Mike said: “It is completely outrageous that a thug has attempted to rob the same shop for a second time. I hope that the police are able to make an arrest soon and lock up this dangerous individual. Small businesses owners play an important role in our community and must be protected from this kind of violence.”
