Greens’ Open-door Policy on Travellers Getting Worse

Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has contacted Brighton & Hove City Council with his concerns that instances of travellers trespassing in the city are getting worse as a group pitch up on Hove’s landmark seafront.

Following a ‘come one, come all’ message from the Green Party, travellers have taken over more and more of Brighton & Hove’s public spaces. In a recent brazen move, a group of travellers pitched up on the historic Hove Lawns. The past year is considered to be the worst since records began.

Residents have reported a number of anti-social incidents from the travellers on the Hove Lawns. Joggers and cyclists, who usually use the seafront, have been subjected to harassment and intimidation. Taxpayers will be forced to pay for any mess that is left.

Commenting, Mike said: “Residents have been incredibly frustrated by the lack of action from the Green administration to address travellers taking over communal public spaces. As well as being denied access to popular parks and open areas, residents have to pay time and again to clear up the mess that is inevitably left.”
