Mike Backs Parliamentary Motion Calling for Animal Experiment Transparency

Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has backed an Early Day Motion (EDM) that calls for open publication of the licences that are granted for animal experiments around the UK.

EDM 716, Transparency in Scientific Procedures, highlights the lack of transparency with regard to animal testing licences and calls on the Government to require inspectors to publish experiment project licences that they approve.

Commenting, Mike said: “Animal welfare is an important issue for me and a large number of my constituents. I welcome an open and transparent system for licensing animal experiments that will help to get a clearer picture of how widespread these kinds of experiments are.”
