Mike Slams City Council Tax Hike

Following collusion between the Green administration and the Labour party, Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has criticised both parties for their extravagant spending plans and for forcing hard-working taxpayers to foot the bill for the new tax hike.

Local residents in Brighton & Hove are about to be forced to pay even more Council Tax following a pact by the profligate Green administration and the wasteful local Labour party to raise taxes by the maximum amount possible. A Brighton & Hove City Council budget meeting is set to take place on Thursday 28th February, where the tax hike will be pushed through. Mike welcomed the stance by local Conservative councillors, who proposed a budget that would have seen a Council Tax freeze.

Commenting, Mike said: “This tax hike is just another example of Labour and Green tax and spend – or tax and waste – ideology. Rather than cutting waste and cutting taxes or at least keeping council tax frozen like local authorities all around the country are doing, our local money-wasters want to charge residents even more. I am pleased that my Conservative colleagues on the council have managed to propose a budget that had no tax increases, but sadly the pact between the other parties will render this moot.”
