Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has backed the campaign launched by family members of former Hove resident Holly Ann Schofield to return to the UK after she was injured in Greece.
Holly was seriously injured after being hit by a speedboat while she swimming in the sea in Greece at the beginning of August. Following the accident, Holly’s family launched a campaign to help bring her home as she did not have adequate insurance coverage. A number of fundraising events have been organised and the campaign to bring Holly home has received both local and national media attention.
Holly’s family and friends have organised a fundraising gig at the Brunswick pub in Hove on Wednesday 28th August. Mike has expressed his joy at the kindness of strangers who have intervened to help and hopes that residents will attend Wednesday’s fundraising event. Commenting, Mike said: “I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to have a relative injured abroad and not be able to have them return to the UK right away. The campaign to raise money so that Holly can return has been an incredible demonstration of the generosity of the friends and strangers who have been touched by this tragic story. I hope that Brighton & Hove residents will support this admirable campaign and pop along for an evening of music.”
