Budget is Good for Residents of Hove and Portslade

Following the Chancellor’s Budget this afternoon, Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has backed the new financial measures that are set to be introduced by the Conservative-led Government.

In keeping with the priority to help hard-working people, Mike’s colleague, the Rt Hon George Osborne MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has announced a number of key policies in his fifth budget. Highlights include:

  • Raising the personal allowance threshold to Ł10,500.
  • Freezing petrol duty.
  • Cutting a further 1p from a pint of beer.
  • Boosting tax free savings, with ISAs set to be more generous.
  • Introducing a five year cap on welfare spending (excluding pensions and job seekers).

Commenting, Mike said: “Once again, the Chancellor has shown that this Government is on the side of hard-working people by helping them keep more of their own money. Our economy is getting stronger every year and I was particularly pleased to see the personal allowance threshold raised, which will help those who earn the least.”
